GIPI (GI PRODUCTS OF INDIA)

GI Products of India – Preserving India’s Authentic Heritage

Welcome to GIPI (GI Products of India)

India is a country known for its extraordinary diversity in culture, tradition, agriculture, and craftsmanship. Every region of India has its own unique identity, shaped by its geography, climate, and cultural heritage. Over centuries, artisans, farmers, and traditional communities have developed special products that are deeply connected to their land and culture. These unique products are known as Geographical Indication (GI) products.

GIPI – GI Products of India is an initiative created to celebrate, protect, and promote these authentic treasures of India. Our aim is to bring awareness about GI products and create a platform that connects consumers directly with the farmers and artisans who produce them.

What Are GI Products?

A Geographical Indication (GI) is a special label or tag given to products that originate from a specific geographical region and possess qualities, reputation, or characteristics unique to that place.

In India, GI tags are registered under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 and are regulated by the GI Registry in Chennai.

This tag protects the authenticity of a product and ensures that only producers from that specific region can use that name.

For example:

  • Madhubani Painting from Bihar

  • Darjeeling Tea from West Bengal

  • Banarasi Saree from Varanasi

  • Kanchipuram Silk Saree from Tamil Nadu

  • Kashmir Pashmina from Jammu & Kashmir

  • Alphonso Mango from Maharashtra

  • Mysore Sandalwood from Karnataka

Each GI product reflects the culture, climate, and traditional knowledge of the region where it is produced.

Why GI Products Are Important

GI products are not just goods; they are a representation of India’s living heritage. They play an important role in several ways:

1. Protection of Traditional Knowledge

GI tagging protects centuries-old techniques and traditional knowledge that artisans and farmers have inherited from their ancestors.

2. Economic Empowerment

GI recognition helps local producers receive better market value for their products and prevents misuse by counterfeit manufacturers.

3. Cultural Preservation

Many GI products are deeply connected to festivals, rituals, and community traditions.

4. Global Recognition

GI tags help Indian products gain international recognition and build a strong global identity.

Challenges Faced by GI Products

Despite their importance, many GI products and their creators face serious challenges:

  • Lack of awareness among consumers

  • Middlemen controlling the market

  • Artisans and farmers receiving low prices

  • Limited marketing and branding support

  • Declining interest among younger generations

Many artisans and farmers struggle to sustain their livelihoods even though their products are globally recognized.

This is where GIPI – GI Products of India aims to make a difference.

What Is GIPI (GI Products of India)?

GIPI – GI Products of India is a mission-driven platform dedicated to promoting and supporting GI products across India.

Our vision is to create a unified ecosystem where every GI product of India can be discovered, appreciated, and purchased directly from its authentic source.

We believe that the true value of GI products lies not only in the product itself but also in the people behind it—the farmers, artisans, and communities who preserve these traditions.

Our Mission

The mission of GIPI is:

To bring all GI products of India under one umbrella and connect them directly with consumers while empowering the farmers and artisans who produce them.

We want to build a transparent and sustainable ecosystem that ensures:

  • Fair income for producers

  • Authentic products for consumers

  • Preservation of India’s cultural heritage

Our Vision

Our long-term vision is to make India the global leader in GI products by building the world’s largest platform dedicated to them.

We envision a future where:

  • Every GI product of India is easily accessible worldwide

  • Artisans and farmers receive direct recognition and fair prices

  • Consumers can trace the authenticity and origin of every product

  • Traditional knowledge and crafts are preserved for future generations

Bringing All GI Products Under One Umbrella

India currently has hundreds of GI registered products across different categories such as:

Agricultural Products

  • Basmati Rice

  • Nagpur Orange

  • Alphonso Mango

Handicrafts

  • Madhubani Painting

  • Channapatna Toys

  • Blue Pottery of Jaipur

  • Pochampally Ikat

However, these products are scattered across different markets and platforms.

GIPI aims to bring them together into one unified ecosystem.

Direct Sourcing from Farmers and Artisans

One of the biggest goals of GIPI is to ensure direct sourcing.

Instead of multiple intermediaries, we want to build a system where GI products are sourced directly from:

  • Farmers

  • Artisan families

  • Traditional clusters

  • Local cooperatives

This approach will:

  • Increase the income of producers

  • Maintain authenticity of products

  • Reduce exploitation by middlemen

  • Promote sustainable rural economies

What GIPI Will Do

GIPI will work across multiple areas to support GI products.

1. Awareness & Education

Through blogs, stories, and digital platforms, we will educate people about the importance of GI products.

2. Storytelling

We will highlight the stories of artisans, farmers, and communities behind these products.

3. Promotion & Branding

We will help GI products gain visibility through digital media and global platforms.

4. Direct Market Access

We aim to build systems where consumers can purchase GI products directly from their authentic source.

5. Preservation of Heritage

By supporting artisans and farmers, we will help protect India’s cultural heritage.

A Movement for India’s Heritage

GIPI is not just a project or a business idea.

It is a movement to celebrate India’s identity and protect its traditional knowledge.

When people buy GI products, they are not just buying a product—they are supporting a community, a culture, and a centuries-old tradition.

Join the GIPI Journey

India’s GI products are the pride of the nation and the legacy of generations.

Through GIPI – GI Products of India, we invite everyone to join this journey of discovery, preservation, and empowerment.

Together, we can ensure that India’s incredible heritage continues to thrive and reach every corner of the world.
